A major third consists of 9 different notes (for 30 saxophones)
- Study of the major third # 12
A major third consists of 9 different notes is a composition by Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard.
The piece was commissioned by the Nordic Saxophone Festival and was performed by 30 saxophonists from across Europe in March 2018 at the Concert Hall of Aarhus, Denmark.
The major third is a keystone in western music theory and is artificially high pitched according to the tempered scale.
In this composition the major third is approached from a microtonal perspective offering the major third as a saturated interval.
